Where You Stay · New Zealand

Luxury Lodges

Because where you wake each morning shapes everything that follows.

True Luxury Is Personal

We believe true luxury is deeply personal. It is being matched to the right place to rest each night of a journey, not booked into the same handful of famous names as everyone else.

New Zealand's reputation rests on its superlodges: a small, internationally celebrated group of ultra-premium retreats. We know them intimately, and we place guests in them often. But the finest night of a journey is as often a working high-country station, a private villa with no one for miles, a boutique house where the owner pours the first drink, or an eco-retreat at the end of a road — chosen for you, not for the brochure.

What follows are the lodges we return to, most with a quiet word on who each suits, the nights it deserves and how it sits inside a journey. The smaller, more personal places have a page of their own: Character Stays. There are no rates here and nothing to book. Where you stay is a decision about the whole journey, and that is a conversation. And it is only a beginning: many of the homes we use, private residences and one-party-at-a-time hideaways among them, prefer to stay off the page. Ask.

We were thrilled to work with Ahipara, which was responsive and helpful throughout our first trip to New Zealand.

Tell us how you like to stay — grand or hidden, hosted or entirely alone — and we will match the lodges to the journey, not the other way around.
