Luxury Lodges · On the Lakefront
Eichardt’s
Queenstown, Otago
The grand old lady of Queenstown, with the best bar in town downstairs.
The Lodge
Eichardt’s stands on the Queenstown lakefront where the town began — a Victorian building that has watched the lake since the gold rush and now holds a handful of suites, a residence and a penthouse behind its heritage face. It is the one lodge in our portfolio that is deliberately in the middle of things.
The suites are richly done and lake-facing; the bar downstairs has been a Queenstown institution for generations. Where our other properties trade in seclusion, Eichardt’s trades in position. You step out of the door into the town’s restaurants, marina and morning light on the water.
We use Eichardt’s when a journey wants Queenstown itself rather than a retreat above it, for the traveller who likes a lakefront table, a short walk to dinner, and the option of doing nothing more strenuous than watching the steamer come in.

The Practicalities, Honestly
The Nights It Deserves
Two. It is a base for the town and the lake as much as a destination in itself.
Who It Suits
Guests who want to be in Queenstown, not above it: walkers to dinner, lake-watchers, and anyone who values the bar being one floor down.
When To Go
Year-round: summer for the lake and the long evenings, winter for the snow and the town at its liveliest. Autumn colours on the lakefront are worth timing for.
Getting There
Five minutes from Queenstown airport; everything in town is on foot from the door.
From Our Notes
What twenty-five years of placing guests here has taught us
01
Ask for a lake-facing suite. The interior rooms are lovely but the water is the whole point. The Residence and Penthouse suit families or those wanting more room and their own kitchen.
02
The bar and the lakefront restaurant fill up; let us hold the tables, and the harder-to-reach ones out of town, before you arrive.
03
Eichardt’s is the right base for the days that fan out from Queenstown: a heli-picnic on a high peak, the Gibbston wineries, the steamer to a high-country station lunch. Tell us the appetite and we build the days.
How We Place It
Eichardt’s often opens or closes a southern journey, with Blanket Bay or Matakauri providing the seclusion afterwards — town first, wilderness second. Central Otago’s vineyards and Wānaka are both within an easy drive.
Eichardt’s, placed properly
A lodge is only ever one piece of a journey. Tell us what drew you here and we will design the days around it: the right nights, the right season, the right hands.
